It's been rainy and dreary most of the week (not that I'm complaining - we've gotten about 2 1/2 inches of rain this week). One thing I love about cold rainy weather in the fall is that it's time to make soup again.
I love to make soup. Recipes are fine, but soup is something you can make just by throwing things in a pot. This morning the produce manager at Ingles had marked down some mushrooms to 99 cents, so I picked up a carton. Awhile ago I chopped them up and sauted them with some onions, then added flour/milk/chicken broth and made a bisque. I put in a little parsley (would have used thyme if there had been some in the cupboard) and a bouillion cube. Then I put in some Velveeta cheese. No one else in the family would like that concoction, but I'm the only one at home, and I thought it was good.
This week I made zucchini garden chowder on another cold rainy day. Mike wasn't too excited when he discovered there was shredded zucchini in it, but he ate two big bowls, so I think he liked it better than he let on.
Tonight, when Mike and Mary Lee come in from hunting, I'll have something else on the stove - probably a potato soup with bacon and chunks of turkey. Gotta use up what's in the house, and that's easy to do in soup.

Everything sounds wonderful!!! I like the idea of trying things, but things just don't seem to turn out so well. For instance, last week I made "soup" with chicken boulloun (I know it's spelled wrong) cubes, added pasta chicken, green beans, tomatoes, etc. Well the long and short of it is that the broth all cooked into the ingredients so now I say I made chicken casserole. : )
